The free gift of Divine rest, part 1
We have actually been commanded to remember. First, to remember something that was forgotten, and then, much later, to remember the origin of the holiest day that would be changed, not by God, Who does not change, but by men, mercurial men. People, and tradition.
The Free gift of Divine rest, part 2
On My holy day, God says. The Lord's Holy Day, God says. Make His day special, honorable, and you will find joy in the Lord. A day of promise — golden promises surrounding God's Holy Day, the Lord has spoken. Remember. Delight.
One God, many names
Lord Yahweh God Almighty. For many years it was appropriate to say: "We don't really know the correct and proper Name of God, as it has been lost, and we definitely don't know how to pronounce it." That is not true today, due to archeological finds, the Dead Sea Scrolls, and a better concept of history, and understanding of scripture and the Hebrew language.
Focusing on the real Christmas gold
Focus on the Family is at it again, along with the miraculous resurrection of Ted Haggard, demanding that local businesses put Christ back up on the marquees and in the slogans and on the "for sale" signs. In a nation where money is most important — the current health-care system has always been about money, and profits, and little about health, or care — it makes perfect sense to demand that Christ be "reinserted" into a holiday that He never participated in, never commanded, and certainly never heard a word about.
Prayer
The somewhat simple concept of prayer — so simple that children rarely have a qualm in understanding, and even joyously participating in the activity, prayer — is interpreted very differently by all the cultures of the world, and even quite drastically different within Christianity.
Franklin's 304th birthday anniversary
Sunday, January 17, 2010 is the 304th birthday anniversary of international superstar Benjamin Franklin, Founding Father of America, inventor of bifocal glasses (he was frustrated due to the constant switching of eyeglasses during French meals, he could either see his food, or the person's face in conversation, and hit upon the idea that no one up until that time had ever considered, combining two pairs of glasses into one), and one of the strongest, wisest voices for real liberty.
Honey, I love and adore you
If any substance on Earth can be described as a "miracle food," that substance would be honey. And for something that proves to be this good for us, and for it to be as tantalizingly delicious as it is, it just goes to show that there is yet very real magic alive and well in the world, even today. Honey is a medicinal miracle, as well as a sensuous culinary delight. Honey is...marvelous!
