Don't Give Up. Solider On.
It is not simply just a matter of eating a big hunk'o
flu virus, and BLAMMO, you have the flu. No, it has a lot more to do with your responsibility as a human being, your role as a steward of this planet, and the fact that your body really is a Temple of God, a Temple of the Holy Spirit (whether you like it or not, and whether you choose to keep that temple holy or not, and regardless of your belief or unbelief). You are a highly functional piece of equipment, much more complex than a Ferrari sportscar or the most highly developed computer system, and it matters, very much, what materials you utilize to main your cellular production, the building blocks of your temple. You truly are what you eat.
The people who mimimalize the priceless worth of their own physical bodies, are the very same that minimalize the whole concept of "global warming," trivializing both as sophomoric red herrings and wildest of geese chases. It doesn't matter what you eat, and we can do whatever we like to the planet regardless of the consequences. In truth, they believe (and call it truth) that there are no consequences.
They ain't undah de law, the law of logic, or goodness, or clear thinking, personal accountability and responsibility.
Now granted, we tend to speak in simplified terms, almost code words, and those code words, cliches, somewhere along the line lose almost all their meaning and become hardly anything more than an irritating buzzing noise emitting from our lips and tongues, and thus are simplified, stupid buzz words. "Global Warming" is a buzz word, or two buzz words, a buzz phrase.
When the concept of "Global Warming" began, or at least a basic understanding of it, the idea was that by increasing the heat of the planet in an area or two, or really just in one basic location, we as humans would be throwing out of kilter a whole system that was a product of Intelligent Design. For instance, we know a whole lot of intelligence went into designing a Viper automobile. And it is painfully obvious, or should be so, that if we add sugar to the oil tank and salt to the gas tank, we are distinctly altering the intent of the intelligent design, at best the intent of the Intelligent Designer.
In short, we are screwing up a very luscious car.
Wasting it, Destroying it.
This makes sense, doesn't it? If Someone gave us a Viper to tool around town in, blowing out our mane of hair all cool, making us the envy of anyone we pass on the freeway; it just might be a good idea to care for this product of Intelligent Design. We don't want to screw it up, because we enjoy tooling along in it, laughing when all the jealous people give us the finger and call us a tool. We don't want to destroy our Viper. It has value.
In the same way, we have been given a planet (either you believe an Intelligent Creator gave us this gift of a pleant, or you believe that a Psuedo-Intelligent Evolution gave it to us) and what we do on its surface either aids the Intelligent Design (God or Evolution).
Cutting down the equipment that produces fresh air, while simultaneously running our whole world on a substance that burns the oxygen out of the air, this does something. This tweaks the Intelligent Design. We breathe in as plants breathe out and they breathe in as we breath out. A small child can understand this rocket science.
Global Warming is real in the sense that the Butterfly Effect is real. A superlative Genius of all geniuses created a staggeringly imaginative contraption that relies on millions of systems supporting other systems which in turn support other systems, we could call it an ecosystem, and we haughty humans behave as if this is just a big game, where the Creator set up a whole bunch of dominoes for us to knock over, to entertain us. God created the world for our entertainment, and like the petulant child that we are, we have tired of His gift, as we do all of His gifts, and we want to trash it and throw it onto the big toybox, so we can get our next big something, the next flashy toy.
A lot of people call this "next flashy toy" by the name of "Heaven." And they think they are going there. They are betting that they are going there. They think they can rip and tear and trample the Gift in order to get the shinier present.
Except that God makes it pretty clear, in many places, that He takes our responsibility to this planet very seriously. That He is going to judge us on how we treated His contraption. He is going to judge whether we aided His Intelligent Design, or whether we contributed to the destruction of His creative masterpiece.
The world is the big picture.
On a smaller scale is our body, the supposed Temple of the Holy Spirit. The Temple of God. Even pagans use this phrase, that their body is a temple. Christians love to chortle about it.
And yet, do you believe it? Do you really believe that your body is a temple of God? Do you care for it as much as you would if you were the caretaker outside of a building in Jerusalem? What if the Temple still stood on the Temple Mount, and sacrifices were conducted daily, and those sacrifices had meaning in reality, would you take your duties seriously?
When you received instruction on what kinds of animals were acceptable as offering, would you chuckle and say: "We ain't undah de law!" And slit the throat of a pig on the altar in the courtyard?
What do you think God would think about your changing of His laws? Would you point to your parents and claim it was their fault, that they taught you this abomination?
Or would you bow your head before God and agree that you had sinned, that you had gone against God's direct counsel, what He told you in His own voice, what He had written in His own Book?
Would you say to God: "Lord, you said it, I believe it. I will obey You. You said if I loved You, I would keep Your Commandments, and I believe You. I will, Lord, I will obey!"
Is that what you would say? Is that what you would do?
Or would you stand upright, proudly, and sneer into the face of God and shout: "I don't have to do what You say, Lord, because I am under Grace! I don't have to obey You, and I don't want to obey You, and there ain't a thing  you can do about it, Lord!"
Is that what you would say? Is that what you would do?

Plagues that roam the dark, epidemics that strike at noon. They will not come near you, even though a thousand may fall dead beside you or ten thousand at your right side. You only have to look with your eyes to see the punishment of wicked people. You, O Lord, are my refuge! You have made the Most High your home. No harm will come to you. No sickness will come near your house. Psalms 91:6-10 (God's Word Translation)
